From the Archives: IMPART Researcher Participates in Energy Metabolism Study

Dr. Petra Kienesberger participated in a 2011 study led by researchers at the University of Graz in Austria that explored energy metabolism disorders and the relationship between the fat cleaving enzyme ATGL and signaling molecules needed to regulate nuclear receptors in the body.

Their conclusions, which were published in Nature Medicine, detail possible treatments for patients affected by excess fat accumulation due to dysfunctional ATGL activity. Treatment with drugs that activate nuclear receptors could potentially have a tremendous impact on patient heart function, mitochondrial activity and metabolic health.
